Legendary South African cricketer AB de Villiers warned his former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) teammate Chris Gayle ahead of South Africa Champions' clash against West Indies' Champions in the WCL 2025. The high-voltage clash between these two sides will mark the second match of the competition which commenced on Friday.

De Villiers Challenges Chris Gayle With Off-Spin

Known for his aggressive batting style, AB de Villiers is set to play the WCL 2025 as one of the marquee players. The talismanic batter, who announced his retirement in 2018, is expected to spearhead the South African batting lineup.

However, ahead of South Africa's tournament opener against the West Indies, De Villiers sent a stern warning to his former RCB teammate Chris Gayle, albeit as an off-spin bowler. In a video posted by De Villiers himself, the Proteas legend could be seen fine-tuning his bowling skills in the net session.

After marking his run-up, De Villiers charged towards the camera and openly challenged Gayle, saying, "Christopher Henry Gayle, I am coming".

Generally, left-handed batters tend to struggle against right-arm off-spinners, who take the ball away from them. Thus, although De Villiers said it in a light-hearted tone, it won't be surprising if he actually introduces himself into the attack to counter the Gayle storm.

AB de Villiers To Lead South Africa's Star Studded Squad

While AB de Villiers has been appointed South Africa Champions' captain for the ongoing WCL season, the likes of Hashim Amla, Richard Levi, JP Duminy, Morne van Wyk and Wayne Parnell are expected to play crucial roles for the Proteas in the competition.

They have their season opener against West Indies, South Africa Champions will take on their counterparts from India, England, Pakistan and Australia on July 22, 24, 25 and 27, respectively.
