Uganda made history on Thursday by being the fifth country from Africa to compete in an ICC Men's T20 World Cup edition. Along with Namibia, they confirmed their participation in the upcoming mega event, which is scheduled to start on June 4 and end on June 30.

The final 20 teams for the competition have now been determined. Namibia and Uganda joined the six other teams that advanced through regional qualifying.

In hosting the T20 World Cup 2024 along with the West Indies, the USA will make its first global tournament appearance outside of the Champions Trophy since 2005.

Five teams will now be split into four groups, as opposed to the 2021 and 2022 editions, with the top two from each group moving on to the Super Eight stage. After that, two teams from each group in the Super 8 phase will progress to the semi-finals, as the elusive trophy will be up for grabs once again.

As hosts, the first two places for the 2024 edition were occupied by the USA and the West Indies. The following ten spots were decided by performances at the 2022 edition and prior to the ICC T20I rankings cut-off date of November 14.

The top eight teams in Australia (the top four in each Super 12 group) were awarded spots for the 2024 competition; the next two best teams, as of November 14, 2022, on the MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings, were also guaranteed spots: Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Regional play determined the final eight spots for the upcoming edition.
