Netherlands team announces squad for the Bangladesh series [Source: AFP]
On August 25, Netherlands announced major changes to their squad for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, starting on August 30 in Sylhet. The most notable inclusion is 17-year-old batter Cedric de Lange, who has been called up as one of three replacements following injuries and withdrawals in the team.
Fast bowlers Ryan Klein and Fred Klaassen have been ruled out due to injuries, while Saqib Zulfiqar has withdrawn for personal reasons. To fill the vacancies, the Netherlands have brought in De Lange, Sebastiaan Braat, and all-rounder Sikander Zulfiqar.
Sebastiaan Braat Returns To Team After 4 Years
For Braat, this marks a return to the national side after last featuring in T20 internationals in 2021 against Nepal. De Lange’s selection comes as a reward for his impressive performances at the Under-19 level and in domestic T20 cricket.
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards expressed his excitement about the youngster’s call-up. He said,
"It's always exciting to bring a youngster into the squad."
"Cedric has been impressive all summer and he's really earned this call-up. We're looking forward to seeing what he can offer us on this tour and, hopefully, across a long career ahead of him," he added.
Notably, this will also be the Netherlands’ first-ever tour of Bangladesh, having played only five T20I internationals against them in the past.
The series holds significant importance for both teams: the Netherlands will use it as preparation for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, while Bangladesh will see it as an opportunity to fine-tune their squad ahead of the Asia Cup beginning on September 11.
The three-match series will take place on August 30, September 1, and September 3.
