On a breezy eve at Wankhede, the Mumbai Indians got hammering from Rajasthan's Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored the third century of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and second one against MI in the season. With his blazing 124 off 62 balls, Jaiswal surpassed Faf du Plessis, Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Virat Kohli in the race for the highest run-getter, becoming the current Orange Cap holder.

Race to Orange Cap in IPL 2023

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal - 428 runs in 9 innings*
  • Faf du Plessis - 422 runs in 8 innings
  • Devon Conway - 414 runs in 9 innings
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad - 354 runs in 9 innings
  • Virat Kohli - 333 runs in 8 innings
  • Shubman Gill - 333 runs in 8 innings

Against MI, no one apart from Jaiswal delivered, with extras being their second-best run-contributor with 25 runs. However, despite no other batter coming to the party, the Royals didn't let the home team find breath at Wankhede.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old southpaw - who smacked his maiden hundred - complied his innings with 16 fours and eight gigantic maximums, bashing the MI bowlers in all corners of the park as he flaunted his array of strokes.

Now, the onus is on the Indians to chase down a massive total against one of the best bowling units of the tournament.
