In a much-awaited clash, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will lock horns at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. So far, in this fierce rivalry, MI has been the one who has had the upper hand on RCB. However, Virat Kohli has been the one who has led the charts when it comes to the record with the bat.
Kohli has been the highest run-getter when it comes to this heavyweight clash in the IPL, followed by the likes of Rohit Sharma and AB de Villiers. In the 33 innings that he has played against Mumbai, Kohli has scored 910 runs at an average of 31.38 while striking at 128.53 while scoring 5 fifties
The RCB legend's best performance against them came in 2018 at this very venue where he scored an unbeaten 92 off 62 in a run-chase of 214 runs. However, this knock ended up in a losing cause as nobody else stood up for the Royal Challengers as they finished at 167/8 after 20 overs. For context, Quinton de Kock was their second-highest run-scorer of the game, with a 12-ball 19.
The ex-RCB skipper's other notable performances against MI came in Mumbai again in 2015, when RCB scored 235 while just losing the solitary wicket of Chris Gayle. Virat scored an unbeaten 82 off 50. He stood alongside AB de Villiers as the duo added 215* (102) where de Villiers took control and scored 133 (59).
The RCB opener has especially been fantastic at the Wankhede Stadium in his 17 outings since 2008. He has scored 571 runs at the venue at an average of 52 and a strike rate of 138. Out of the mentioned 17, 10 have been against MI where he has been impressive as well. He has scored 331 runs against them at this venue at an average of 47.3 as he struck at 137.9.
