CSK to take on KKR [iplt20]

Following two back-to-back defeats on the road, Chennai Super Kings return to Chepauk with the hope of finding some rhythm back as they welcome Kolkata Knight Riders in match number 22 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Monday, April 9.

Knight Riders, on the other hand, have been fantastic to start this season and will come into the game unbeaten in their first three games where they will look to go to the top of the table with 8 points on the board.

After failing to put up a formidable total against Sunrisers Hyderabad, CSK ended the innings with just 165 runs on the board which was chased down by SRH in just 18.1 overs with 6 wickets left. However, Shivam Dube didn't fail to impress again as he scored 45 off just 24 while hitting 4 sixes and 2 fours, the rest all looked rather tame with the bat. 

With the ball, Maheesh Theekshana and Moeen Ali looked like the only bowlers who had some sort of control over SRH's batting as Abhishek Sharma ripped them apart with his fiery 37(12) at the top. Theekshana, in his four overs, conceded just 27 runs as he dismissed Travis Head. Ali was CSK's pick of the bowlers with 2/27 off his 3 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR, on the other side of the spectrum, have looked like million dollars this season with their 'old guard', Sunil Narine and Andre Russell up and firing again. Narine, to everyone's surprise, started opening for them again and has been their top scorer this season with 134 runs while scoring at 206.15 in 3 innings. Russell has fired in both the departments and has arguably been their best player so far with 104 runs in 2 innings while striking at 238.64 and taking 5 wickets in 3 games.

In their last game, they have also probably found another gem with a 2005-born, Angkrish Raghuvanshi scoring a 27-ball 54. They put up a massive 272/7 in their 20 overs with almost everyone firing. Narine scored 85(39) followed by 41(19) from his fellow Caribbean, Russell before getting bowled to an uncredible yorker from Ishant Sharma. Rinku Singh also scored 26 off just 8.

With Phil Salt also in good touch, they saw Mitchell Starc having a good day for his 2/25 and 3-fers for Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy. With all the departments firing on all cylinders, KKR will look to continue the momentum against CSK on Monday.

The Chepauk wicket usually promises dry pitches with some assistance to the spinners. Not much of a seam movement for the pacers apart from the initial over with the new ball. Some bounce can be expected and the teams usually prefer batting first here. However, putting the opposition to bat can also help them with the pitch getting easier to bat on in the later stages of the game. The users of slower ones and cutters will be key to deceive the batters.
