According to emerging reports, stylish left-handed batter Venkatesh Iyer could be traded to another IPL team following his failure in the ongoing season. As reported by Anandabazar Patrika, the swashbuckling southpaw is likely to find a new home ahead of the next season. 

Why Could KKR Trade Venkatesh Iyer?

Poor returns in IPL 2025

Venkatesh Iyer was disappointing with the bat in the IPL 2025. In seven innings, Iyer managed only 142 runs at a horrendous average of 20.29 and a strike rate of 139.22. Thus, given that he failed to live up to the expectations, the defending champions might trade him with another franchise. 

To free up a whopping amount

KKR purchased Venkatesh Iyer for a whopping price of INR 23.75 Crores. While Iyer was a pale shadow of himself, KKR had to compromise with the quality of their remaining squad, having already used such a huge amount for the left-handed batter.

Chennai Super Kings

  • Chennai Super Kings had a forgettable journey in IPL 2025, getting eliminated from the tournament. CSK's top-order failure was one of the major reasons why they suffered a group-stage exit. 
  • Although the Super Kings secured the services of Urvil Patel, Dewald Brevis and Ayush Mhatre, they might release the Kiwi duo of Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway, thereby creating vacancies at the top order. 
  • In such a scenario, Venkatesh Iyer could be a proper replacement for him, considering his multi-dimensional attributes. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad

  • SRH's first-choice number three batter Ishan Kishan has been miserable in the IPL 2025. In ten innings, Ishan has managed only 196 runs at a poor average of 24.50. 
  • Considering Ishan's inconsistent returns, SRH might opt to release him ahead of the mega auction. In such a scenario, Venkatesh Iyer could be a name they might show interest in. 
  • Iyer has excellent numbers at number three, scoring 562 runs at a sublime average of 43.23 and a strike rate of 168.77. 

Delhi Capitals

  • Another team that could be interested in signing Venkatesh Iyer if KKR decide to trade the explosive batter. Despite KL Rahul showcasing consistency, DC's IPL 2025 campaign has been marred by top-order woes, with Faf du Plessis and Abhishek Porel not stepping up to the occasion. 
  • Du Plessis, in particular, has been the biggest disappointment for the Capitals, managing 173 runs at a mediocre average of 24.71 and a strike rate of 122.70. Also, considering his declining fitness, DC will likely release him. 
  • In that case, Iyer could be a suitable replacement for the South African great. If he is slotted at three, DC will be able to pair up KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel as their openers.
