The Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner and teams will fight it out for the coveted trophy. The tournament will begin on February 19 as Pakistan and New Zealand will play the first match of the competition. Pakistan, the defending champions will be one of the title contenders alongside Australia, who will look to clinch the title for the third time.
The Australian selectors announced their squad a couple of days ago and have plethora of stars who can single handedly win matches for their side. The Australian team is firm favourites to reach the semis and could meet India in the knockout stages.
In this piece, we will talk about 3 Aussie players who can thrash India if the two teams do meet in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy.
3) Mitchell Starc
ICC tournaments and Mitchell Starc is a great love story. Over the years, Starc has been outstanding for the Australian side in the ICC competitions and this Champions Trophy would be no different.
One thing which goes in the favour of Starc is that he might fail in the group stage matches, but when the big moments come, he shines brightly. It was evident in the IPL 2024, when he turned the tables with his spell in the playoffs and the finals. If India and Australia do meet in the knockouts, expect the left-arm seamer to be the difference maker between the two teams.
2) Pat Cummins
The leader of the Australian team and perhaps their biggest match-winner in terms of skills. Ever since Pat Cummins became the captain, Australia have been riding high with a WTC finale win in 2023, followed by a 50-over World Cup triumph.
They have secured their spot in the 2023-25 WTC finale and will be the firm favourites to defend their crown. Just like Starc, he is a big-match winner and if India and Australia do meet, his 10-over spell could decide the fate of the semis.
1) Travis Head
India's nemesis and perhaps their greatest roadblock in terms of winning an ICC trophy. He stood like a brick wall in the WTC finals, two years ago, and once again single-handedly thrashed India win the 50-over World Cup final.
He loves playing against India and the Blue jersey gets the best out of him and he'll be the trouble maker once again if the two sides clash in the semis of the Champions Trophy.
