Northern Superchargers win their 2nd game in the Men's Hundred Competition by defeating the Trent Rockets by 3 runs at Trent Bridge. It wasn’t looking good for the Superchargers as they 70-5 after 62 balls due to some great bowling from Luke Wood and Joe Root. Even after the collapse the 72 run partnership between David Wiese and Brydon Carse made sure the Superchargers reach a decent total of 142.

The Trent Rockets Batsmen could not capitalise on their starts and were struggling at 101-6 needing 42 of 18 balls. Despite the valiant efforts of Daniel Sams and Lewis Gregory at the lower order they still fell short by a narrow margin of 3 runs due to some great bowling from Supercharges captain Parnell and Reece Topley.

Wiese's Showstopper: David's Outstanding Innings Sinks Trent Rockets

Wiese’s innings couldn’t have come at a better time for The Northern Superchargers scoring 54 from 25 balls at a time where the team was struggling. His knock consisted of 3 fours and 4 sixes and had a strike rate of 216. He has scored most of his runs in the mid wicket region where he scored 15 runs.

This is the region where he clears his front leg leg and slogged the bowlers clearing mid wicket. He also played some well controlled hooks in the fine leg region scoring 7 runs. Even though Wiese is a more leg side dominant player he has played some powerful shots on the offside as well where he scored 8 runs in the cover region and 6 runs square of the wicket.

He also capitalised on the length balls on the stump and has scored 17 runs down the ground. Through these numbers we can see that Wiese has played shots all around the ground except for the third man region. This indicates that he has scored 87% of his runs in front of the wicket which indicates that it was an innings full of clean striking and great timing.

Parnell's Command: Skipper Takes 3 Wickets, Leads from the Front

Wiese’s innings did get the Superchargers out of trouble but it was up to the bowlers as well to restrict the rockets as well. The pick of the bowlers for Northern Superchargers was none other than Wayne Parnell who had figures of 3/21 in 20 balls with an economy of 1.05 RPB. He showed great experience and was varying his pace and mixing his line lengths taking advantage of the two paced wicket of Trent Bridge.

The first two wickets he took were of a good length or back of a length delivery where Munro sliced the delivery outside off stump and Alex Hales was a victim of the ball which didn’t bounce much and rattled his stumps. The last wicket was slightly short which Cadmore only managed to pull straight to mid wicket.

Conclusion

Overall this was another encounter involving the Rockets where they ended up on the losing side. The Trent Rockets just needed one decent partnership to get over the line which they failed to build in their innings. Another major setback was that they couldn’t get many quick runs in the middle which made it difficult after losing wickets at crucial moments as well.

The Northern Superchargers on the other hand came back into the match well and displayed a great bowling performance that was needed after setting a decent total on the board and got the result that they wanted in the end.
