Shadab Khan, playing for Birmingham Phoenix, went up against his national teammates Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf in match number 14 of Men’s The Hundred 2023 competition.

Prior to the game, the dashing all-rounder claimed that he would show no remorse to the two Pakistani speedsters, as he “just wants to whack them for sixes.”

The promise turned out to be a dud as pace maverick Afridi got him for a low score, thus engineering an easy Welsh Fire win at the end.

Shaheen Afridi cancels Khan’s promise with a full toss

Shadab Khan, who issued a sporting challenge to Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi, perished in front of the latter for just two runs in his side’s home fixture against Welsh Fire. The Phoenix all-rounder misjudged a full-toss, and ended up miscuing it in the air only to be caught-and-bowled by Afridi during the death overs of the innings.

A few hours ahead of the contest, the cricketer jokingly revealed his intentions of facing the two Pakistani pacers, saying “I just want to whack them for sixes.”

Notably, Khan also came close to getting dismissed by Haris Rauf off the very first ball of his innings. However, Welsh Fire wicketkeeper Joe Clarke failed to get his glove onto the ball after the batter was deceived by an off-cutter.

Phoenix eventually slumped to a six-wicket defeat by Fire in Birmingham, which keeps them at the bottom of Men’s The Hundred 2023 points table.
