The skippers played a significant role in the teams' runs. Some of the leaders led from the front with commanding performances, while some of them strategically led their teams to positions of strength.

The Bangladeshi skipper had a terrible time in the tournament. Even though the team performed well in the group stages, Najmul Hossain Shanto failed to deliver with the bat. In the Super Eights, Shanto came up with a couple of good knocks but could not take the team to victory. Besides, Shantos's strategies and decisions looked confusing, making him the weakest captain from the Super Eight stages.

Even though Aaron Jones impressed with the bat in the first match of the tournament, he failed to keep up the performance in the later stages. Also, after the ruling out of Monank Patel, the US team did not look like the same side under Aaron's leadership.

The world of cricket was expecting a cricketing treble from Australia. But Mitchell Marsh failed to deliver as a captain, and Australia had to bow out of the Super Eights. From their shock defeat to Afghanistan to their poor display against India, there are plenty of instances where one can point the finger at Marsh and hold him responsible.

The West Indian skipper looked a bit puzzled throughout the tournament. It looked like even though Rovman Powell tried, he could not properly address the problems in the team at the correct time. A lot depended on his performances, but he failed to deliver, and as a result, West Indies had a premature exit from the tournament.

The English skipper himself looked a bit of touch in the tournament. However, Jos Buttler played a couple of blistering knocks in crunch games and took his team to convincing wins. Overall, even though he seemed sorted with his plans and strategies, however, things did not fall into place for England as a team.

The South African skipper has not been at his best in terms of personal performances. But Aiden Markram has led his team brilliantly. The Afghan skipper had a great time in the World Cup. Rashid Khan was the main performer in the must-win game against Bangladesh. Besides that, he was always on his toes, leading his team to a dream run. In the semi-final, Rashid gave his best even when they had nothing total on the board. The way he led his team and the fighting spirit he showed makes him the second-best captain in the tournament.
