Suryakumar Yadav could be dropped for Champions Trophy [Source: @surya_14kumar/X]
After a horrendous defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the 2024-25, India are preparing to take on England in an eight-match white-ball leg at home. While Suryakumar Yadav will lead the hosts in T20Is, the presence of Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy makes India a team to beat.
According to reports, the Men in Blue will announce their Champions Trophy squad on or before the 19th of this month. Meanwhile, there are three players, selected for the England T20Is, won't likely be a part of the Champions Trophy, as mentioned below.
Suryakumar Yadav
- India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav got a long rope in ODIs before his non-performance cost him his place in India's 50-over side. Surya, who played an instrumental knock against England, faced an ODI snub following a string of underwhelming outings in the World Cup at home.
- Although Suryakumar continues to be an asset for India's T20I team, he is unlikely to make a comeback for the Champions Trophy even if he performs admirably in the upcoming five-match series against England.
Rinku Singh
- India's swashbuckling middle-order batter Rinku Singh has been the backbone of their middle order in the T20Is. In 22 innings, Rinku has amassed 507 runs at a healthy average of 46.09 and a strike rate of 165.15.
- Despite recording stunning numbers in List-A cricket, Rinku hasn't played a single ODI for India. With the team management preferring Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as the middle order batters, Rinku won't likely be picked for the Champions Trophy.
Abhishek Sharma
- India's swashbuckling opener Abhishek Sharma got an opportunity to prove his mettle in the England T20Is despite his underwhelming run in international cricket. Abhishek is known for his hard-hitting skills in the shortest format, having struck 256 runs at a blistering strike rate of 171.81.
- However, despite his impressive run in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Abhishek has yet to get a chance in the ODI team. As Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are likely to be picked as India's openers, Abhishek will likely be ignored for the Champions Trophy 2025.
