Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match number 53 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on May 5. The match will be hosted by the scenic HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala and marks the 11th respective fixture for both sides this competition.

Currently placed at number seven on the IPL 2024 points table, Punjab Kings need to win each of their remaining four league games in order to stay in contention for the playoffs.

Ahead of their much-important match against CSK, here is a look at a probable playing XI of the Punjab Kings group.

Punjab Kings journey so far in IPL 2024

Punjab Kings started off its IPL 2024 campaign with an emphatic win against Delhi Capitals. They also outclassed Gujarat Titans a couple of weeks later at Ahmedabad in a last-over run-chase. However, four successive defeats thereafter hampered their playoffs prospects and they even found themselves at number nine on the points table at one stage.

Moreover, regular captain Shikhar Dhawan also sustained a shoulder injury midway into the tournament, prompting Englishman Sam Curran to take up leadership duties on an interim level.

After losing out to Rajasthan, Mumbai and Gujarat; Curran’s Punjab Kings eventually gained some rhythm with remarkable wins over Kolkata and Chennai. With no official update of Dhawan’s recovery yet, one can expect the England-based all-rounder to lead his PBKS troops once again on May 5.

It is also safe to assume that Sam Curran will retain the same playing XI against the defending champions at Dharamsala, one which yielded him wins in the last two games.

Impact subsitute Prabhsimran Singh will continue to open the innings with Jonny Bairstow. Meanwhile, the likes of Rilee Rossouw, Jitesh Sharma, Sam Curran and IPL 2024 breakout stars Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma will once again constitute Punjab Kings’ middle-order.

Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar, who delivered identical match-winning spells at Chepauk Stadium earlier this week, will continue to helm Punjab Kings’ spin attack.

Arshdeep Singh will share the new-ball with Curran and Harshal Patel, and Kagiso Rabada will serve as the primary overseas speedster in the playing XI.
