The wait is almost over as the Asia Cup 2025 is set to commence next month, with eight teams competing to be crowned the champions of Asia. India are the defending champions, and will enter the tournament as the favourites. However, if there is any team that can challenge the Men in Blue, then it has to be Pakistan. They wear the unpredictability badge and can upset any team on their day.

For Pakistan to succeed, the form of Shaheen Afridi matters. If the left-arm seamer is at his best, then the Men in Green have a great chance to get their hands on the trophy. Before Shaheen, there was another pressure who was responsible to deliver the goods for Pakistan, and he was Mohammad Amir. • Meanwhile, Shaheen has not played a single Asia Cup T20I game, but his ODI record is impeccable, with 14 wickets to his name. The Eagle, Shaheen has an average of 25, and has clearly been a genuine wicket-taker across any format in Asia Cup. But the same cannot be said about Amir.

Final verdict

Their T20I stats cannot be compared since Shaheen is yet to play a T20I Asia Cup game for Pakistan, but when it comes to the overall record, and the ODI numbers, the current seamer is miles ahead of the former cricketer. He has more wickets, has a better strike rate, and the only area where Amir was marginally ahead was economy. But since a fast bowlers' job is to take wickets, and Shaheen has done that consistently, he becomes the winner.
