Indian batting barnacle Cheteshwar Pujara confirmed his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket a couple of days ago. With Pujara concluding a chapter that epitomised India’s classical Test batting virtues, tributes came pouring in from teammates and admirers alike.
His decade-long Virat Kohli has now become the latest Indian cricketer to join the bandwagon, as India’s all-format great recently shared a heartfelt tribute on his social media account.
Virat Kohli Wishes Cheteshwar Pujara On Retirement
On Tuesday, August 26, i.e., a few days after the retirement announcement from Indian Test resolute Cheteshwar Pujara, his longtime teammate Virat Kohli took to his social media account to express his admirations for the outbound cricketer.
Kohli, who often batted at number four for Team India in Tests after Pujara, thanked the latter for making his own “job easier”. He wrote:
“Thank you for making my job easier at 4. You’ve had an amazing career. Congratulations and wish you the best for what’s ahead. God bless.”
Virat Kohli confirmed his own retirement, albeit from Test cricket, a couple of months ago ahead of India’s five-match tour of England. Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma also made his exit from red-ball cricket around the same time, mere months after legendary all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin stepped down from Indian cricket.
Nonetheless, Cheteshwar Pujara last played a Test match for Team India back in June 2023 during the 2023 WTC final match against Australia at The Oval. In a career spanning 103 Test matches, the elegant right-hander compiled 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60, plundering 19 hundreds and 35 half-centuries in the process.
Cheteshwar Pujara also aggregated over 21,000 runs in first-class cricket, making him one of the finest red-ball batters in the country. The right-hander notched up 66 centuries and 81 fifties and averaged 51.82 in the format.
