The BCCI recently announced Team India’s squad for the highly anticipated T20I series against England, set to begin on January 22 in Kolkata. The squad has generated significant buzz, especially with some notable inclusions and exclusions.

Star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has notably been excluded from the squad, with Dhruv Jurel being added as the backup to Sanju Samson. Meanwhile, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami makes his return to the team for the first time since 2023. Suryakumar Yadav continues to lead India in T20Is, while all-rounder Axar Patel has been appointed as the new vice-captain.

As the series draws closer, the spotlight is also on the Indian batting line-up, with several players poised to make a significant impact. In this article, let's take a look at three Indian batters to watch out for during the T20I series.

1. Sanju Samson

  • Sanju Samson, over the years, has struggled to find a permanent place in the team. However, the year 2024 has seen a breakthrough for Samson, as he has proven his worth in style with an outstanding performance in T20Is.
  • It is worth mentioning that Sanju Samson has been in remarkable form in the shortest format of the game. He has made three centuries in five T20I matches in 2024. His first century came against Bangladesh, however, it was his performances in South Africa that truly announced his arrival on the big stage. The Kerala batter hammered two centuries during India's tour of South Africa that clearly showcased his aggressive and composed approach at the top of the order.
  • Considering his recent success and form it would not be wrong to conclude that this would have definitely boosted Samson's confidence. So all these factors combined have made Samson a player to watch out for in the T20I's against England.

2. Suryakumar Yadav

  • Suryakumar Yadav continues to be India’s most destructive T20I batter in recent times. Known for his ability to score runs in all phases of the game, along with his 360-degree batting style, he is a constant threat to any opposition.
  • Another factor that makes him an important player against England will be his experience in the shortest format of the game. Since making his debut in 2021, he featured in 78 T20Is for India, in which he has made 2570 runs with a stellar strike rate of 167.86. His impressive tally is decorated with four hundreds and 21 half-centuries.
  • Along with his batting prowess his captaincy will also be an important factor for India. Considering all these factors his form will be crucial for India's bid to outshine England in the upcoming T20I series.

3. Abhishek Sharma

  • Abhishek Sharma has established himself as one of the most explosive batters in T20I format, and his potential to make a significant impact in the upcoming T20I series against England cannot be overlooked. Known for his aggressive strokeplay, along batting-friendly conditions expected in India, he can exploit the surface to its full extent.
  • The Punjab batter is comfortable facing both spin and pace, adapting his game as needed to counter various types of bowlers. In addition to his batting prowess, Abhishek  also can be used an effective bowler in the middle.
  • However, despite his obvious talent, his T20I career has been somewhat been inconsistent. With 256 runs from 12 matches, his average of 23.27 remains a point of concern, especially in a format where consistency is crucial. But however, to conclude he will be a player to watch out for against England.
