To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2024 will commence in June, right after a riveting Indian Premier League season. As per emerging reports, the participating teams must finalise their respective squads for the marquee event by 1st May. 

As the countdown begins, let's see what team India's squad could be for the tournament's ninth edition. 


India's probable squad for T20 World Cup 2024

Regarding India, the team will be led by none other than Rohit Sharma, who recently hammered a blistering ton in the final T20I against Afghanistan. Considering his stature and the BCCI's stance on him, the ace Mumbai batter will likely be the captain for the showpiece event. 

Rohit will be accompanied by Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top, as the latter has been outstanding with the bat in the shortest format. 

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill might miss the berth owing to his poor returns in T20Is of late. Since the West Indies away series, Gill has managed only 133 runs across eight innings at a mediocre average of 16.625. 

Having said that, the Punjab batter might get a wildcard entry into the Indian squad if he performs admirably in the upcoming IPL 2024. 

Prominent batters Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh will be picked unless they sustain some injury in the eleventh hour. Hardik Pandya, who will lead Mumbai Indians in the IPL, will travel to the Caribbean as India's premier fast-bowling all-rounder. 

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will likely be picked as the lead seamers, with the lethal duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi spearheading the spin department alongside Axar Patel. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad could be picked as the third opener, while Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh are likely to be rewarded for their recent exploits in T20Is. 

There could be a tough competition between Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson for an additional batter's slot, with the team management likely to prefer the latter for his wicket-keeping skills.
