The inevitable happened and Rohit Sharma failed once again in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Playing at his home venue, Wankhede, Rohit was expected to deliver the goods, but after a couple of nice shots, the MI opener departed for just 13 runs.
This has been become a trend for a long time now as Rohit gets a decent start and throws his wicket away. He has failed in the ongoing IPL 2025 and perhaps time has come to give him a rest for the next match. Here are 3 reasons why Hardik Pandya should drop Rohit for the next match.
As the numbers suggests, just 21 runs and an average of 7, with a strike-rate of 105. He has been a pale shadow of his former self and on current form, Rohit should be dropped by Hardik.
As stated in the table, Rohit's only good season in recent years was the 2024 season where he amassed 417 runs. However, barring that, things have looked bleak. Rohit dropping from the playing XI isn't only about his current form, but also his numbers in the last few seasons which has been more than underwhelming.
3) Build team for future
Rohit, 37, is not getting any younger and perhaps only has one more IPL season left in him. MI is one of those IPL franchise which believes in giving youngsters an opportunity and it should begin from the next match as the franchise should aim to develop future players.
Rohit won't lose much if he sits out of the next clash but the team could give opportunities to someone else and build a strong opener for the future seasons as well.
