As the Test season marks its conclusion, it's time to get ready for white-ball cricket. With the Champions Trophy and Indian Premier League knocking at the door, we are all set to witness the cricketing carnival in the subcontinent.
Talking about the IPL, the 18th season of the tournament will start from March 21 onwards. However, as the competition nears, there are several players who might be ruled out of action due to recent injury setbacks, as mentioned below.
1. Josh Hazlewood - Royal Challengers Bengaluru
- Australia's premier speedster Josh Hazlewood missed the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a side strain. He hasn't recovered from the injury yet, being ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy.
- Hazlewood was expected to play a massive role for Royal Challengers Bengaluru after the franchise secured his services for a whopping amount of INR 12.5 Crores.
- Considering Hazlewood's importance for the national side, it won't be surprising if Cricket Australia prevents him from participating in this year's IPL. He hasn't resumed training and might miss the IPL 2025 for RCB.
2. Pat Cummins - Sunrisers Hyderabad
- Australian captain Pat Cummins sustained an ankle injury, eventually missing the Sri Lanka tour as well as the Champions Trophy.
- Cummins led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL 2024 final, and as a result, the franchise retained him for INR 18 Crores.
- However, his ankle injury resulted in Cummins's omission from the Champions Trophy. There hasn't been any positive update on him, and given that the IPL 2025 is days away from us, it won't be surprising if Cummins gets ruled out of the tournament, partially or fully.
3. Gerald Coetzee - Gujarat Titans
- South Africa's promising fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a groin injury. It's worth mentioning that Coetzee also missed this year's SA20 tournament due to a left hamstring injury.
- Despite being a gifted fast bowler, Coetzee's career has been marred by frequent injury setbacks. The fast bowler, who represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024, was purchased by Gujarat Titans for INR 2.40 Crores.
- Although Coetzee could be doubtful for the IPL 2025, his absence might not cost the Titans much, as they have a formidable fast-bowling core of Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj.
P.S: Apart from these players, doubt also looms over the participation of Jacob Bethell (RCB, hamstring injury), Lockie Ferguson (PBKS, hamstring injury) and Mitchell Marsh (LSG, back injury) who are struggling with injuries. Meanwhile, Allah Ghazanfar (MI) is all set to miss the IPL 2025 due to a fractured L4 vertebra.
