Josh Hazlewood in action [Source: @VikashJ13660845/X]
On Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a massive setback, with express pacer Umran Malik getting ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to injury. Left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya has replaced him in KKR's IPL 2025 squad.
Meanwhile, with the IPL 2025 approaching, there are three such injury-prone players who could be ruled out at any point during the tournament, as mentioned below.
1. Josh Hazlewood - RCB
- Veteran Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has joined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru camp ahead of the IPL 2025. The franchise purchased him for a whopping amount of INR 12.5 Crores in last year's mega auction.
- The fast bowler's career has been frequently marred by injury setbacks in recent times. He has missed almost half of Australia's last 35 Tests dating back to the 2021-22 Ashes.
- After a mild calf strain kept him out of the T20Is against England and Scotland, Hazlewood was ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy midway due to a side strain.
- He was also sidelined from the Champions Trophy, where Australia lost the semifinal against eventual champions India. Although he has joined the RCB camp, it won't be surprising if his recent fitness concerns prevent him from participating in the tournament.
2. Gerald Coetzee - GT
- Ace South African speedster Gerald Coetzee has been a proven performer in white-ball cricket. In 62 T20 innings, Coetzee has bagged 88 wickets at an average of 21.44 and a superb strike rate of 14.8.
- However, Coetzee has missed plenty of action recently due to frequent injuries. He was ruled out of the Sri Lanka home Tests and all-format series against Pakistan due to a groin injury.
- After a left hamstring injury cut short his SA20 2025 campaign, Coetzee was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to tightness in his groin.
- Although he has started bowling in the nets, Coetzee's fragile body might take a toll on his participation in the IPL 2025.
3. Anrich Nortje - KKR
- Veteran South African pacer Anrich Nortje was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders for an amount of INR 6.50 Crores in last year's mega auction. In 46 IPL matches, Nortje has bagged 60 wickets at an average of 26.23 and a strike rate of 17.57.
- Nortje's international career hasn't really taken off, thanks to multiple injury setbacks. He hasn't played a single international match since the T20 World Cup in June last year.
- He was sidelined from the Pakistan home series after sustaining a toe injury in December-January. The right-arm pacer also missed this year's SA20 season before a back injury ruled him out of the Champions Trophy.
- These facts suggest his vulnerable fitness in recent times and it won't be surprising if he gets sidelined from the IPL 2025 due to injury.
