Shakib Al Hasan is one of the best all-rounders the game has ever seen, and he proved that once again when he belted his countryman Nasum Ahmed for 26 runs in an over of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2024) match between Rangpur Riders and Khulna Tigers.

Batting at number three for Rangpur Riders, Shakib entered the ground after the dismissal of Rony Talukdar and blazed his way to 69 runs off just 31 deliveries, comprising 5 fours and 3 sixes. The highlight of his innings came in a single over, where he hammered his compatriot Nasum Ahmed for a total of 26 runs, hitting three sixes and two fours.

This remarkable performance by Shakib Al Hasan comes amidst recent challenges with his batting due to an eye condition, forcing him to adjust his head positioning in search of a solution.

Initially struggling in the BPL 2024 with just four runs from his first five matches at an average of 1.33, Shakib found his form with scores of 34 and 27 against Durdanto Dhaka and Chattogram Challengers respectively.

However, it was against Khulna Tigers that Shakib truly shone, smashing the fastest fifty of the tournament off just 20 balls, surpassing Evin Lewis’ record of a 21-ball fifty against Fortune Barishal.

Contributing significantly to Rangpur Riders' total, Shakib forged a crucial partnership of 109 runs off 48 balls with Mahedi Hasan for the third wicket, rescuing the team from a precarious position at 24 for 2 in 3.2 overs.

In addition to his batting feats, Shakib recently achieved the milestone of 7000 runs in T20 cricket during the match against Chattogram Challengers and is on the verge of claiming 500 wickets in the format.

While Shakib was not included in Sri Lanka’s white-ball series, he remains a key figure in the Tigers camp expected to feature prominently in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Despite not being the captain of the national team, Shakib's form will be crucial for Bangladesh's prospects in the T20 World Cup, as emphasized by Bangladesh Cricket Board president Najmul Hasan Papon's appointment of Najmul Hossain Shanto as the new captain across formats.
