The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has reached its business end with 5 teams being eliminated and only 5 remaining in the hunt for the coveted trophy. While 3 teams, GT, PBKS and RCB have already qualified for the playoffs, two sides, DC and MI will fight for the 4th spot on Wednesday.

5 Teams have already being eliminated and one of the pre-tournament favourites, CSK one of them. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured midway through the tournament and MS Dhoni was made the captain once again. However, despite the leadership change, the performance didn't improve and the team languishes at bottom of the table. Some of the big names have underperformed this season and could be released next season.

However, there are 3 under-performers, who despite failing to deliver the goods might be retained ahead of next season.

1) Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja, the veteran batter was retained ahead of the mega auction last year, and even though he had a decent season with the bat, scoring two fifties, the all-rounder disappointed with the ball and failed to deliver at the spin-fiendly Chepauk surface.

Just 8 wickets in 12 matches and most of the games Jadeja played at spin-friendly Chepauk venues. However, despite not being at his best, CSK might keep Jadeja for next season since the team needs experience in the squad and over the years, Jaddu has done well. One bad season might not affect his place in the team.

2) Rachin Ravindra

Bought for INR 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 season, there were high hopes from Rachin Ravindra, but the Kiwi batter had an underwhelming season and was also dropped from the starting XI with young Indian stars preferred over him.

(Ravindra IPL 2025 stats)

In 8 matches, he only accumulated 191 runs with a not so promising strike rate of just 128.19. With the aggressive Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis coming up, MSD decided to drop him. However, CSK do need him for next season. With Ruturaj Gaikwad preferring to bat at number 3, Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel will likely open for CSK next season, and the team needs a back-up opener.

Out of Ravindra and Devon Conway, CSK have trusted Ravindra more this season and he could be kept in the side as a backup to the two young Indian stars.

3) Shivam Dube

One of CSK's best player for the last two seasons, Shivam Dube had a below-par campaign in IPL 2025 as he couldn't help CSK win matches on his own, spmething which he used to do in previous seasons.

(Dube stats in IPL 2025)

Just 301 runs with a strike rate of 130 tells us about Dube's IPL 2025 campaign. However, CSK could possibly retain him since they don't have a quality left-handed batter in the middle order and since he is one of the best spin-hitters of the team, MSD might give one more chance for the lefty to prove his worth.
