With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the line, former Indian cricketer and head coach, Ravi Shastri has some clear advice for Team India as they head Down Under. After a shocking 3-0 home loss to New Zealand, India’s spirits might be a bit bruised, but Shastri wants them to shake off the past and bring their best to Australia.
Ravi Shastri’s Gives Crucial Advice To India Ahead of BGT Opener
"They were a little complacent, and they paid the price for it,” Shastri noted on The ICC Review. “But this is a very proud team, this Indian team.”
Ravi Shastri is all about a fast start. He knows a good beginning in the first Test could be the edge India needs.
“The best way to bounce back from such a series, is start off another series in a good manner. So the first two Test matches become extremely crucial, going ahead.” he said.
He’s urging the squad to make their mark in Perth from the get-go, reminding them how they set the tone in 2018 with a memorable win in Adelaide. A solid start in Perth, and the series could tilt India’s way.
Shastri Reminds Team India of Past Aussie Wins
Shastri also wants the team to focus on what they’ve done right in past tours, not what went wrong recently. He pointed to the 2018 series win under Virat Kohli and the 2021 win despite several injuries.
"Think about what you did in Australia last time," he said, adding, “Put what happened behind you. These are different conditions.”
Shastri sees Australia’s pitches as a big opportunity for the Indian batters.
“Some of the tracks in Australia, when you get in, are probably the best to bat on,” he pointed out.
He wants the batters to settle in early, get used to the bounce, and then make the most of it. If they do, it could put the Aussies on the back foot.
India’s road to the World Test Championship Final is clear: they need four wins in five matches. Shastri knows this team is capable and wants them to play with that goal in mind.
"They’d like to get back on track ASAP," he said.
For Shastri, this series is India’s big shot at redemption, and he’s telling them to stay focused on that bigger picture.
With his words firing them up, Team India heads into the first Test in Perth with fresh focus and serious drive. If they can tap into his energy, it could kick off something amazing.
