We are half-way through in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Each team has played seven matches and the race has heated up for a place in the knockout stages.

Throughout the first half, we have seen some brilliant batting performances, ranging from Virat Kohli, to Rinku Singh, to Faf du Plessis to Ajinkya Rahane. The fans have seen some exhilarating stuffs with the willow in hand, and here are the top-5 run-getters who are leading the race for that coveted Orange Cap.

Orange Cap IPL 2023

1) Faf du Plessis

The leader of RCB, Faf du Plessis has aged like a fine wine. Doubts creeped in when he was made the RCB skipper after Virat Kohli stepped down. But the South African has led from the front not only as a leader, but also as the batter. The opening batter has amassed 405 runs in 7 matches, including 5 fifties.

He has struck at 165.30 and looks unstoppable at the moment.

2) Devon Conway

Another opening batter and another terrific player from the Chennai Super Kings camp. Conway has 7 half-centuries for CSK in just 14 matches, and that shows his ability to play out big innings. This season, the southpaw has racked up 314 runs in 7 matches, which includes three back-to-back fifties. He has a strike-rate of 143.37.

3) David Warner

Warner's strike-rate has come under scrutiny, but that can be justified because the team lacks depth in the batting department. Just like du Plessis, Warner is leading from the front and has scored 306 runs in 7 matches. As stated before, the strike-rate is below expectation - 119.53, but a player of Warner's capability can take it to the next level, provided DC sort the mess in batting.

4) Shubman Gill

Gill provides solidity to the Gujarat Titans' middle-order. The Indian batter has been a revelation ever-since bought by the Titans last year. He can be the anchor and can also change the gears whenever needed.

Gill has racked up 284 runs in 7 matches, at a strike-rate of 142.71, including 3 fifties.

5) Virat Kohli

Fair to say that King Kohli is back amongst the runs. He went for a golden duck in the last match against the Rajasthan Royals, but barring that has been imperious at the top. Kohli has slammed 279 runs in 7 matches, with 4 fifties under his belt. If RCB are to win the IPL for the first time, Kohli needs to continue firing at the top.
