One of the hottest properties in world cricket, England's Harry Brook was expected to light up the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 with his explosive batting, which sadly hasn't been the case for the youngster. Purchased for INR 13.25 crore by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Brook has failed to make an impact, having scored just 163 runs in seven matches, including a maiden IPL ton against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

SRH, led by Aiden Markram, are languishing ninth in the IPL 2023 points table with two wins and five losses due to batting collapses match after match. Former Australian coach and player Tom Moody, who also worked with SRH until last year, has suggested that the franchise should not continue with Brook as an opener.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, the former World Cup winner explained that Brook should be slotted into the middle order, where he has mostly batted in his career for England and otherwise.

Here's what Moody said

“No, Brook should not continue to open. He has had six innings where he has averaged only 10 at a strike rate of run-a-ball. He has had one unbelievable innings, but he’s a middle-order player and always has been,”

Former England international Kevin Pietersen also lashed out at Brook for his dismissal against the Delhi Capitals while chasing 145 runs on Monday, where they lost by seven runs.

“I just don’t understand the shot actually. The fine leg is back. You’ve got a deep point, you’ve got a fine leg. He was giving himself a lot of room on the leg stump to hit through the off-side. I dunno, maybe I’m old fashioned – fine leg back, not a good shot,”

The 24-year-old will look to set things right when SRH take on Delhi on Saturday in their away encounter.
