Rashid Khan scythed through the lower-order of hosts Zimbabwe in the series-deciding third T20I match at the Harare Sports Club on December 14. Leading Afghanistan and opting to bowl first after winning the toss, captain Rashid piled on the early momentum laid out by new ball pacer Naveen-ul-Haq and spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

The dashing all-rounder bagged four wickets in the innings to reduce the Zimbabweans from 93-5 to 106-9 in the space of just two overs. Seizing figures of 4-27 from his four-over spell, the hosts were eventually enveloped for 127 in 19.5 overs.

Rashid Khan completes nine wickets in series

Rashid Khan trapped Zimbabwean number six Faraz Akram and had Tashinga Musekiwa and Richard Ngarava both holed out by teammate Sediqullah Atal. The Afghanistan captain also trapped Blessing Muzarabani plumb in front for a two-ball duck to finish with astonishing figures of 4-27 from four overs.

Rashid Khan’s latest spell marked his eighth four-wicket haul in T20Is, and extended his series tally to nine wickets in just three innings against hosts Zimbabwe.

Earlier in the series opener on December 11, the cricketer claimed the prized-scalps of Brian Bennett and Ryan Burl in his fighting four-over spell. However, Zimbabwe walked away as the winners by coming up clutch in a last-ball thriller.

In the very next match at the same venue, Rashid Khan snared three wickets at an expense of just 20 runs from four overs to orchestrate Afghanistan’s emphatic 50-run win to level the series.

A veteran of 451 T20 matches, including 96 internationals, the legendary Afghanistan cricketer is also one of the leading wicket-takers in the history of the game’s truncated format, and is only one of two bowlers in history alongside Dwayne Bravo to hold over 600 wickets.
