New Zealand and Bangladesh lock horns for Match 11 of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 13.

The BlackCaps march on to try and continue their brilliant run in the early days of the competition while the Bangla Tigers strive hard to regain pride following a hammering to England.

Shakib Al Hasan's men would have happier memories of the fixture versus Afghanistan when they easily toppled off their fellow Asian rivals and might take confidence from the fact that the track in Chepauk has tended to offer grip and turn to the spinners.

However, they are about to face one of the two most in-form teams of the competition in New Zealand. The Kiwis pose a major hurdle to the Bangladeshis after pulling off comprehensive victories against England and Netherlands and will be confident to make it three wins on the bounce.

With spinners ruling the roost, batting has been a difficult task over the years at Chepauk. Since January 2010, no team has produced an innings of 300 or above in a One-Day International played at the venue. Even though the underlight dew in the second half tends to provide a balancing act, chasing has remained a stiff job at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Of the 50 ODIs played at one of the traditional centres of Indian cricket, a shocking low, only nine times the side fielding first has gone on to achieve victory at the venue. 18 times a team winning the toss has decided to bat first in Chennai and has gone on to clinch victory on 12 occasions. The overall figure stands at 14 wins for teams batting first.

New Zealand could be the team to dominate their game against the Bangladeshis after carrying incredible form into the fixture. The BlackCaps were considered the tournament darkhorse but commanding wins in their first two matches, especially the league stage encounter versus reigning champions England has raised their stocks and given them the tag of a serious contender all of a sudden.

Bangladesh's best hope is for Shakib and the spin pack to run through the Kiwi batting line-up during the Chepauk encounter after setting up a defendable total batting first. They also have seamers who would relish the dry surface for old-ball duties and reverse swing.
