Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) sustained their lean patch in the IPL 2025, as Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated them by 37 runs in the 54th group-stage match of the tournament. Batting first, the Kings posted a massive total of 236 runs before restricting the Super Giants to 199 for seven despite Ayush Badoni's sensational fifty.

LSG's Playoff Chances Jeopardised After PBKS Loss

Led by Rishabh Pant, LSG had an extraordinary start to the season, securing four wins in their first six matches. However, their IPL 2025 campaign has since gone downhill, as they have incurred four defeats in their last five matches.

Their latest defeat against Punjab Kings further shattered LSG's hopes for an entry in the IPL 2025 playoffs. As they continue to struggle in the tournament, here we explain how can they still qualify for the next round.

Can LSG Qualify For IPL 2025 Playoffs?

Currently, Lucknow Super Giants are placed seventh in the standings with only ten points under their belt. They have three matches left, and can reach a maximum of 16 points, provided they emerge victorious in all their remaining fixtures.

Talking about LSG's competitors, RCB have already bagged 16 points, and PBKS are placed second in the IPL 2025 standings with 15 points. Mumbai Indians have secured 14 points and are yet to play three more matches

So, for LSG to qualify for the playoffs, the Rishabh Pant-led side must win its remaining three matches against RCB, GT and SRH, respectively. Considering MI have an exceptional NRR of +1.274, PBKS, DC, KKR and GT seem to be LSG's biggest competitions in the playoffs race.

Thus, as shown in the above table, LSG must win against SRH, RCB and GT and pin their hopes on CSK and SRH to beat GT, DC and KKR in the upcoming matches.

If the results of the remaining group-stage fixtures go accordingly, LSG and DC will finish with 16 points, with MI and RCB claiming the top two slots with 20 points each. Thus, PBKS and GT will be eliminated and LSG will make into the playoffs.
