In a concerning development for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), premier all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer walked off the field during the ongoing IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Eden Gardens. This was one of the most high-profile moments in the crucial face-off.
Venkatesh Iyer Goes Out Of The Ground With Injury
The incident occurred during the third over of RR's innings after KKR posted a massive total of 206 runs on the board. As Vaibhav Arora bowled a dot ball to Yashasvi Jaiswal, Venkatesh Iyer called KKR physio as he struggled with fitness concerns on the field.
Eventually, the swashbuckling southpaw made his way back to the dugout, with spin-bowling all-rounder Anukul Roy replacing him on the ground. According to CREX, the exact nature and seriousness of Iyer's injury is yet to be revealed.
"Venkatesh Iyer is walking off the field. Not exactly sure what the injury is but is walking back to the pavilion with the physio. Anukul Roy has replaced him on the field," CREX stated.
KKR Hold Venkatesh Iyer In 1st Half
Venkatesh Iyer was KKR's most expensive pick in last year's mega auction, as the defending champions brought him back for an amount of INR 23.75 Crores. However, the southpaw let the Knight Riders down with a string of unimpressive performances.
Overall, he has managed only 142 runs at an average of 20.29 and a strike rate of 139.22. As a result, KKR didn't even send him to bat in the must-win affair vs Rajasthan Royals.
Andre Russell was promoted up the order and smashed a blistering fifty, powering the Knight Riders to a whopping score. As of writing, RR were struggling in the middle, placed at 75 for five, with Hetmyer and Parag batting at the crease.
