According to emerging reports, the BCCI is unlikely to persist with Jasprit Bumrah as India's vice-captain for the upcoming England tour. After the conclusion of the ongoing IPL season, India will travel to England for a five-match Test series against the host nation.

No Bumrah In Leadership; BCCI Searching For New Face

As reported by The Indian Express, the BCCI is considering replacing Jasprit Bumrah as India's vice-captain in Tests due to his proneness to injury. It's worth mentioning that the ace speedster led India to a remarkable victory at Perth in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in regular captain Rohit Sharma's absence.

However, given that he won't likely play all five Tests due to workload management, the Indian team management is seeking a fresh face who will be available for all matches of the series.

The report states that Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are the frontrunners to become Rohit Sharma's deputy, with the board planning to groom them as India's future leaders.

In fact, TOI has claimed that Gill could be India's vice-captain on the tour, as the BCCI plans to revamp Test leadership ahead of the next World Test Championship cycle.

Although Yashasvi Jaiswal's name is also in the reckoning, the selectors might not burden his young shoulders with leadership.

Jasprit Bumrah's Injury-Ridden Career

Experienced fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been a victim of frequent injury setbacks in international cricket. The fast bowler's workload in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy resulted in another back injury that sidelined him from competitive cricket for a considerable amount of time.

Bumrah missed the Champions Trophy before being ruled out of Mumbai Indians' initial matches in the IPL 2025. Recently, he returned to action after undergoing rehabilitation at BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Thus, given his importance for India in the long run, it makes sense from the BCCI's perspective to manage his workload carefully. If reports are to be believed, India are likely to pick several fast bowling reserves and use them on a rotational basis on their England tour.
