The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) came to an end with the win of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Final against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This was their third IPL trophy, they have repeated this feat after 10 years. 

We have been witness to some brilliant individual displays throughout the tournament. However, the impact of some players stood out as they played a major role in the achievement of their respective teams. Here is a look at the best playing unit from IPL 2024, based on the impact of the players. 

Openers

Virat Kohli (RCB)

Matches - 15 Runs - 741 Average - 61.75 Strike Rate - 154.69

The Indian superstar had once again a stellar season with the bat. Virat Kohli scored runs consistently and did it at an excellent strike rate. Kohli's consistency and the fact that he finished as the highest run-scorer in the tournament finds him a place as an opener in this team.

Sunil Narine (KKR) ✈️

Matches - 14 Runs - 488 Average - 34.85 Strike Rate - 180.74 Wickets - 17 Economy Rate - 6.69

The Trinidadian all-rounder has been the MVP for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Sunil Narine has delivered for the team with both the bat and the ball. There is no way an IPL 2024 Team of the Tournament will be built without Narine.


Middle Order

Sanju Samson (RR)

Matches - 16 Runs - 531 Average - 48.27 Strike Rate - 153.46

The RR-skipper had been in brilliant form throughout the tournament. Though he failed to deliver in the playoffs, Sanju Samson's overall performance in the tournament finds him a place in this team.

Riyan Parag (RR)

Matches - 16 Runs - 573 Average - 52.09 Strike Rate - 149.21

The young Indian all-rounder had a breakthrough season in IPL 2024. Riyan Parag batted under pressure and scored runs consistently in the tournament. The impact he left in the RR middle-order makes Parag a part of the Team of the tournament. 

Heinirch Klaasen (SRH) (WK) ✈️

Matches - 16 Runs - 479 Average - 39.91 Strike Rate - 171.07

The South African middle-order batter played a big part in SRH's brilliant show in the tournament. Heinrich Klaasen provided dynamism to the team's batting and helped them maintain the momentum that Travis Head gave them at the start of the innings in most games. 

Shashank Singh (PBKS)

Matches - 14 Runs 354 Average - 44.25 Strike Rate - 164.65

The Indian middle-order batter was one of the biggest positives for PBKS in the tournament. In a season where most stars failed to deliver for the franchise, Shashank Singh carried the team in several games. He played a few game-changing knocks and showed great temperament under immense pressure.

This season, the Australian long-format skipper induced a new life into the SRH team. Under Pat Cummins' astute leadership, SRH played a fearless brand of cricket that left most teams without a reply. Besides his strategic insight, Cummins came up with some game-changing spells and decent cameos under pressure for the team. 


Bowlers

Varun Chakravarthy (KKR)

Matches  - 15 Wickets - 21 Economy Rate - 8.04 Bowling Average - 19.14 Strike Rate - 14.28

The Indian spinner delivered a stellar season with the ball. Varun Chakravarthy's efficiency in the middle overs put KKR ahead in many matches. His ability to pick up wickets while being economical in the most important phase of the game makes Chakrvarthy a part of this team.

T Natarajan (SRH)

Matches - 14 Wickets - 19 Economy Rate - 9.05 Bowling Average - 24.47 Strike Rate - 16.21

The Indian medium-pacer has been pretty efficient with the ball for SRH, especially in the death overs. T Natarajan has been clever with his use of variations, which has paid off for the team in a big way. His strike rate with the ball makes Natarajan an essential part of the team. 

Jasprit Bumrah (MI)

Matches - 13 Wickets - 20 Economy Rate - 6.48 Bowling Average - 16.80 Strike Rate - 15.55

The prime Indian pacer was on a roll throughout the tournament. Jaspirt Bumrah's bowling form was probably the most significant positive in a forgettable campaign for the Mumbai Indians. He was economical, efficient and consistent in every phase of the game. Bumrah is an indisputable part of the Team of the Tournament.

Harshal Patel (PBKS)

Matches - 14 Wickets - 24 Economy Rate - 9.73 Bowling Average - 19.87 Strike Rate - 12.25

The veteran Indian medium pacer did not have a great start to the tournament. However, as the tournament progressed, Harshal Patel got into an excellent wicket-taking form. He finished off as the tournament's highest wicket-taker and thus finds a spot in this team. 


Impact Subs  

Travis Head (SRH) ✈️ - The Australian opener was in a destructive form throughout the tournament. However, Travis Head failed to deliver in the most important games. Therefore, Head stays in the impact subs.

Abhishek Sharma (SRH) - The young Indian openers dynamic batting has been one of the biggest revelations of the tournament. Abhishek Sharma could act as a impact sub who opens the innings and gives the team a dynamic start in case of big run chase. 

Yuzvendra Chahal (RR) - The Indian leg spinner was in a great wicket-taking form especially in the first half of the tournament. However, Yuzi Chahal' s form dipped towards the later half and thus he is in the impact substitutes. 

Phil Salt (KKR) - The English opener combined really well with Narine. The partnerhsip between Salt Narine and Phil Salt was one of the main reasons for KKR's wonderful run in the tournament. 

Shivam Dube (CSK) - The Indian middle-order batter had a good first half in the tournamemt. Shivam Dube's form in the middle-overs kept CSK alive in the tournament, as his form dropped CSK drafted away from the championship run.
