The ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 has reached its business end. Only four teams are left in the tournament, and it has been a great event so far. The ongoing competition acted as a trial ground for several cricketers as Champions Trophy 2025 is around the corner.
Notably, the prestigious fifty-over event will kickstart from February 19 to March 9. India are among the two teams left to submit their 15-member squad. The selectors are eyeing extra time to fixate on the players, which is also a hint at a few surprises.
Talking about surprises, there are chances that the selectors might pick a couple of stars from the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the Champions Trophy. Thus, this article will shed light on three players who shone in VHT 2024-25 and deserve a place in the Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
1. Karun Nair
Karun Nair is the frontrunner to be a part of the Champions Trophy 2025 squad, as the out-of-favour India star is in red-hot form. Notably, the 33-year-old has amassed 664 runs in six innings, which has featured five centuries.
Nair, who has averaged 664, has broken several records this season, one of them scoring the joint-most centuries in a Vijay Hazare Trophy edition. There are also reports that the selectors are keeping a keen eye on Nair, who hasn't played for India since 2017.
2. Mayank Agarwal
Another out-of-favour star, who shone in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 is Mayank Agarwal. The right-hand batter has scored 619 runs in eight matches, which includes four centuries.
Agarwal has averaged 123 and is the second leading run-getter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 behind Karun Nair. The last time Mayank represented India in ODIs was in 2020, but he has put up a solid show with the bat to deserve a place in the Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
3. Arshdeep Singh
In the bowlers' category, Arshdeep Singh was the star as the left-arm seamer has 20 wickets to his name and is the leading wicket-taker in this edition. Unlike Karun or Mayank, Singh is not an out-of-favoured cricketer, but if there was any kind of question mark on his selection, his Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 performance has certainly removed it.
Although, Singh was not a part of the Sri Lanka series and his last ODI was in 2023 against South Africa.
