English legend Joe Root will head into the second Test against Team India off the back of a massive statistical advantage at his disposal. The 33-year-old cricketer, who failed to make an impact with the bat but made his presence felt with the ball at Hyderabad, has so far tallied over 11,000 runs in his Test career.

The Indian contingent, on the other hand, is without the services of ace batter Virat Kohli considering he opted himself out of the first two Tests citing personal reasons. Moreover, middle-order stalwarts KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have also been ruled out of the upcoming second Test match courtesy of their respective injuries.

The absence of Kohli, Rahul and Jadeja leaves Team India’s collective batting experience for the second Test slightly shorthanded, with captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin leading India’s run-scoring charts with over 3,000 career runs each.

Given the circumstances, Joe Root’s Test profile now outscores India’s entire second Test squad in terms of career runs.

Joe Root outscoring India’s second Test squad

Joe Root has listed 11,447 runs at a splendid average of 49.98 after making 136 Test appearances for his country. Notably, the 33-year-old will enter the second Test at Visakhapatnam holding more runs in his account than India’s entire squad.

The Indian team, currently without the services of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja; will be taking field at the Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium with collective tally of just 10,726 runs in the format.

As one can expect, captain and dashing opening batter Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian race in terms of runs with 3,800; while Ravi Ashwin has so far compiled 3,222 runs to his name.

Even with the presence of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja in the side, Team India lost the first Test match at Hyderabad by 28 runs. Currently trailing 0-1 in the five-match series, Rohit Sharma and co. will now face the visiting Englishmen in the all-important second Test between February 2 and February 6.
