Even before the start of the Champions Trophy, India have been jolted with the news that star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the group stage matches and there is no certainty on his availability for the knockouts, if India make it through.

The leader of the Indian pace attack missed the second innings of the Sydney Test Vs Australia due to a back injury and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. India are sweating hard on his fitness and will hope that the pacer is at-least available for the knockout stages of the competition.

Without Bumrah, the Indian bowling attack looks weak on paper and there is a good chance that they won't make it past the group stage, comprising of Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand. Here are 3 reasons as to why Bumrah's injury will hamper India's chances.

3) There is no substitute for Bumrah

The greatest bowler of this generation, there is no substitute for Bumrah's greatness. Team does have the likes of Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and others, but none can replicate what Bumrah does on the field.

Against the top nations like Pakistan and New Zealand, India need their best pacer and if he is not available, there chances of making past the group stage looks bleak.

2) Is a wicket-taker in every phase of the match

He is perhaps the Indian bowler who has the ability to take wickets in every phase of the match. He can get the breakthrough in power-play, he can scalp wickets in the middle phase and is the best in the business towards the death overs.

Whenever captain Rohit Sharma needs a wicket, he brings Bumrah into the attack, and without him, the wicket-taking abilities do get lost amongst the other bowlers.

1) Ability to deliver under pressure

He thrives under pressure and barring a couple of off-games, Bumrah has always delivered the goods for India in ICC matches. He was brilliant in the 2016 T20 World Cup, and was also India's best performer in the 2019 WC.

Moreover, he was India's best player in the 2023 and 2024 World Cups and was also the Player of the Tournament in last year's T20 WC. Opposition batters fear Bumrah and without him, the batters will fancy their chances against other bowlers.
