According to emerging reports, India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is all set to miss the group stage matches of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Bumrah, who was magnificent with the ball in the recently held Border-Gavaskar Trophy, sustained a back spasm that prevented him from bowling in the second innings of the final Test in Sydney.

Bumrah Develops Back Swelling, Set To Rehabilitate At NCA

As per The Indian Express, Jasprit Bumrah has developed swelling on his back and will undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The BCCI selection committee members are aware of his condition, with the governing body seeking an extension for India's Champions Trophy squad selection despite January 12 being the deadline.

The BCCI is pondering whether to keep the legendary pacer in the 15-man squad or include him among the reserves for the Champions Trophy. Having said that, teams can make amendments to their provisional squad till February 12, and Bumrah's comeback can't be entirely dismissed if he somehow recovers in time.

A BCCI source has apparently told the aforementioned media agency that although Bumrah doesn't have a fracture, the back swelling could delay his recovery until the first week of March.

"He (Bumrah) will be going to NCA for his rehabilitation. The initial report says he doesn't have a fracture but has swelling on his back. So the NCA will monitor his recovery and he will be there for three weeks. But even after that, he will have to play a match or two, even if they are practice games organised to check his match fitness," the source was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Multiple Injury Setbacks For India Before Champions Trophy

Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, India's prominent fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mayank Yadav are also struggling with fitness issues. Although Shami has been included in India's squad for the England T20Is, a call on his participation in the Champions Trophy will be taken only after monitoring his form and fitness in the shortest format. On the other hand, large doubts loom over the availability of Kuldeep Yadav, who is recovering from a groin injury. In such a scenario, India could miss some of their key bowlers in the Champions Trophy.
