The Champions Trophy 2025 is now moving to its business end and every game from hereon will be crucial in the determining the final two teams from Group B. In Group A, the situation is quite simple with India and New Zealand already qualified for the semis. In the other group though, things have got tricky, with the game between Australia and South Africa getting washed out.
Both the teams have got one point from the game and here is how Australia can qualify for the semis after the washout in Rawalpindi.
Case 1: Australia Win Against Afghanistan, England Lose Both The Games
The first case where Australia will qualify for the semis is when they will beat Afghanistan in their last group stage encounter and England will lose both their games. In that case, Australia will qualify along with South Africa with both teams reaching five points.
Case 2: Australia Win Against Afghanistan, England Win Both The Games
In the second scenario, South Africa and Afghanistan will get knocked out if Australia win their last game against the Afghans and the Three Lions manage to win their remaining two games. In that case, South Africa will be stuck at three points while, Australia and England will qualify with five and four points respectively.
Case 3: Australia Lose Against Afghanistan; England Lose Both Games
Australia will miss the semifinal bus if they lose against Afghanistan and England also lose both their games. In that case, South Africa will reach five points while Afghanistan will also have four points in their kitty while Australia will be limited to just three points.
Case 4: Australia Lose Against Afghanistan: England Win Both Games
Australia's Qualifcation will depend on net run-rate if they lose against Afghanistan and England win both their games. In that case, South Africa and Australia will stay at three points and the team with the superior net run-rate will qualify. England will safely qualify in that case with four points.
Case 5: Australia Win Against Afghanistan: England Win One, Lose One
Australia can directly qualify if they win against Afghanistan and England win one and lose one game. In that case, they will have five points on the board while England and Afghanistan will be eliminated with less than three points in their account.
Case 6: Australia Lose Against Afghanistan: England Win One, Lose One
Australia can also qualify for the semifinal even if they lose against Afghanistan. However, for that they would need England to win against Afghanistan and lose to South Africa.
