Perhaps the match of the group stage will take place on Tuesday as the two power-packed batting lineups will collide against each other as Australia will battle against South Africa in the Champions Trophy match at the Rawalpindi Stadium. Both sides won their opening match of the tournament, however, rain god has the last laugh today.

There were rain predictions in Rawalpindi throughout the day, and it came true as the fans witnessed relentless rain and the match officials called-off the match. Both Australia and South Africa will now share a point each as both the sides will be disappointed after the outcome of this contest.

Rain wins the war as crucial match gets abandoned

As per Accuweather, there was a 60% chance of rain today and it came at the wrong time for both the sides who had the momentum with them heading into the contest. Now, their qualification scenario gets a bit tricky as both Australia and South Africa will need to win their next match Vs Afghanistan and England respectively.

Due to the match being called-off, both the sides will share a point each and now have 3 points from the two possible games. England and Afghanistan are yet to open their account.

Qualification scenario for both Australia and South Africa

  • Australia will play Vs Afghanistan and a win will see them reach the semis without the slightest of fuss. England are yet to play Vs Afghanistan and if the Afghans lose the match, they will be eliminated.
  • If Australia lose to Afghanistan and England beat the same team, the Steve Smith led side will hope that England lose Vs South Africa, so that they easily qualify for the next round.
