In a hardly fought contest, Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 68 runs to clinch the 2nd ODI and level the 3-game series 1-1. Skipper Najmul Shanto batted well to set up a 252 total for Afghanistan in tricky conditions of Sharjah . Meanwhile, Afghanistan never found a footing in the chase as consistent fall of wickets led to 68 runs short, leading to unfortunate loss.

Bangladesh batted first, and Tanzid Hasan was undone by youngster Allah Ghazanfar in the powerplay. Rashid Khan adjudged Soumya Sarkar LBW just when the partnership touched 99 runs. However, skipper Shanto led the charge from one end. He scored 76 off 119 balls at no.3 but didn’t receive much support from the other end. Jaker Ali scored 37 off 27 balls as Bangladesh finished with 252/7 at the end of 50 overs. It was a decent score as per Sharjah wicket’s recent trends.

Afghanistan was jolted early as Rahmanullah Gurbaz edged on Taskin Ahmed’s good length ball that nipped away. The leading edge carried the first slip to Sarkar who carried a low catch and Bangladesh drew first blood. Meanwhile, Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah were going strong with a 50-run partnership, but an unfortunate confusion led to Rahmat’s run out, who had just scored a half-century.

Bangladesh tightened the leash, and Nasun Ahmed removed Azmatullah Omarzai for a golden duck. Gulbadin Naib’s fighting 26 off 25 balls was also not enough, as Shoriful Islam got the better of him. With that wicket , Afghanistan were reduced to 181/8 at 41.1 overs.

Bangladesh bowled sensationally to restrict Afghanistan to 184 runs, leading to a 68-run victory. Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, Afghanistan's final hope, also failed to do much damage with the bat. For Bangladesh, Nasum Ahmed took 3 wickets while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman also grabbed 2 wickets each. Islam and Taskin contributed a wicket each. With Bangladesh's victory in the 2nd ODI, the 3-game series is now tied 1-1.
