The Indian Women’s team has already set the tone by clinching the Gold by defeating Sri Lanka Women’s. It is now time for the men in blue to dominate in the tournament. With India’s focus set for the World Cup with a full strength squad, it’s up to these young talents to deliver. The team will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad who is one of the upcoming talents in Indian Cricket.

Though these players have not got as much experience in international cricket, they have impressed us with their ability in the IPL. It will be interesting to see how they perform against one of the top teams in Asia.

Despite not playing a lot of international matches, we cannot ignore the amount of talent this squad possesses. This will be a test for these players not only to perform well in this tournament, but also secure their future in the national team.

Team India Report Card

Strengths

Depth in Batting Order

One of the biggest positives of this squad is they will have a deep batting order. Along with that there is a perfect mix of players who can play deep and players who can finish the game with lusty blows as well. There are 10 players in the squad that are certified batters and can play big innings if required.

Well balanced Squad

The squad looks like one of the most balanced squads going into the tournament. Along with the talented batters, there are also some great All rounder options in Sundar, Dube and Shahbaz who can give you some crucial runs and are also handy with the ball. The pace attack looks great as well.

Weakness

A lot of inexperienced players

We have to deal with the fact that none of the players have had enough match experience in international cricket. Most of the players have played less than 20 T20I’s in their career and have been in and out of the side in the past.

Weak spin attack

We have seen the track at Hangzhou during the Women’s team campaign where there was a lot of turn. With limited spin options in the team can be a big disadvantage to the team.

Opportunities

Ruturaj Gaikwad to show his leadership abilities

Gaikwad has an opportunity not only to establish himself in the T20I set up, but also lead a young and promising team in this tournament. It will give him all the confidence if he can lead this team to another gold.

Threats

Lack of good death bowlers

We know the likes of Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh khan are skilled bowlers, but in recent times they have leaked runs at the death. They might have to work in that department as it can cost them in the future.

Conclusion

Despite their inexperience in T20 internationals this still looks like a solid Indian squad with exciting young players. The only problem would be that there are some players who have not been consistent and lack some attacking spin options. Overall I still think they have a great chance of getting a medal especially Gold.
