The second ODI saw India winning in convincing fashion winning the series. The Aussies already had a stiff target to chase in the second innings with a brilliant display of batting by India. However it was the spin duo of Jadeja and Ashwin that impressed all of us in the second innings. The two spinners made vital breakthroughs and were one of the reasons for Australia failing to build big partnerships.

It was also great to see the spin twins trap the batters on what looked like a high scoring belter. Australia fell short of the target by 99 runs and lost by DLS method while chasing 317 with the match shortened to 33 overs. With the Indian pace attack being expensive on the day it was up to the spinners who successfully managed to get wickets and contain the Australian batters.

Spinning a Web of Destruction: Jadeja and Ashwin's Wicket-Pitch Masterclass

Both the spinners were the architects in getting Australia bowled out for 217. Jadeja and Ashwin have taken 6 wickets between them and bowled great spells. They ended with great figures with Ashwin taking 3 wickets for 41 runs in 7 overs and Jadeja taking 3 wickets for 42 runs in 5.2 overs. Let's take a look at Ashwin’s wicket where he started the collapse by breaking the 3rd wicket partnership between Labuschagne and Warner who were batting well. The wicket of Labuschagne was a perfect example of Ashwin’s ability to fox the batter with his amazing variations.

It was a carrom ball which went straight onto the stumps with Labuschagne trapped in his crease playing for an off spinner. The dismissal of Warner was another carrom ball which was tossed up and beat Warner in flight trying to reverse sweep. The wicket of Inglis was a normal off spinner that was slightly quicker where the batter was caught playing across and was trapped in front of the stumps. Jadeja on the hand was sticking to his strengths aiming for the stumps every time.

The dismissal of Carey was however a rare delivery by Jadeja. This was slower through the and outside off which carey dragged back onto his stumps. The last two deliveries were typical Jadeja deliveries which were quicker through the air. The extra bit of turn he got in the deliveries were enough to beat the bat of Abbot and Zampa and crash into the stumps.

Conclusion

This is a match where we saw the skill and experience of one of the best spinners in the world right now. Jadeja and Ashwin have proved why they are the most feared spinners in international cricket. They do not only have the right amount of skill but also great cricketing minds. Their ability to set up batters during any stage of the game makes a huge asset to any team.

This game was a huge example of how their experience and skill is still required in every format of the game. Their ability with the bat makes it even more difficult not to consider them for the upcoming World Cup. In conclusion with Jadeja already in the squad and Axar’s fitness in question, the option of taking Ashwin will be fair as he has the required amount of skill and experience to play in the World Cup.
