In the latest developments, Arshdeep Singh has been announced as the Men's T20I cricketer of the year for 2024. The young Indian pacer was brilliant for his team in the last year, and as a result he has earned the prestigious award.

Notably, the other nominees alongside Arshdeep were Travis Head, Babar Azam and Sikandar Raza. Here is an analytical look at why Arshdeep won the award ahead of the other three.

4. Travis Head

Travis Head had a great year as a batter in the T20Is. He scored 539 runs in 15 innings in the format during 2024 at an average of 38.50 while maintaining a strike rate of 178.47. He looked destructive and impactful. During the T20 World Cup 2024, Head posed the greatest threat to the Indian team. However, he could not take his team to victory.

3. Sikandar Raza

Sikandar Raza has been the backbone of the Zimbabwean team, especially in T20Is, for the last few years. He carried the team once more on his shoulders during 2024. Raza scored 573 runs in 24 matches at an average of 28.65 and a strike rate of 146.54.

While he was brilliant with the bat, Raza also delivered with the ball, picking up 24 wickets in 24 matches at an economy of 6.52.

2. Babar Azam

The Pakistan star batter scored 738 runs in 23 T20I innings in 2024. Babar Azam had an average of 33.54 in the year, scoring at a strike rate of 133.21. The numbers look good for a top order batter, but Babar did not have the impact in the crucial games expected of him during the year.

1. Arshdeep Singh

The year 2024 was a brilliant one for Arshdeep Singh. In 18 matches, the left-arm pacer picked up 36 wickets while having an economy of 7.49 and an average of 13.50.

While the numbers are extraordinary for the Indian bowler, the fact that Arshdeep delivered under pressure put him ahead of the competition. He brought his skills to the table when they were required the most and bailed the unit of pressure. Due to his overall impact as a bowler during 2024, and especially in the T20 World Cup, Arshdeep Singh earned the ICC T20 Men's Cricketer of the Year award.
