Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner, and lot of debates and deliberations have started around the make-up of Indian team for the mega event. India will play all their matches in U.A.E and with recent setbacks in Tests and ODIs, there are calls for some bold changes in the Indian squad.

However, amidst some indifferent performances by Indian team, Yashasvi Jaiswal has stood out. He has done brilliantly for India in both Tests and T20Is but has surprisingly not made his debut in the ODIs.

Now, after a brilliant Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the calls for his inclusion in the the format ahead of Champions Trophy is going loud and he could be a good replacement of Shubman Gill at the top of the order. Gill too has done well in the ODIs, but here are the three reasons why Yashasvi Jaiswal can be a better option than Shubman Gill.

Dynamic Nature Of Yashasvi Jaiswal's Batting

Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken world cricket by storm in the last couple of years with his aggressive batting coupled with consistency. He has been scored his runs at a strike-rate of 164.31 in T20Is and with similar flat batting conditions expected in ODIs too, he could destroy bowling attacks.

Also, Yashasvi Jaiswal has shown the ability to go for big shots right from the onset which fits perfectly into modern-day white-ball mentality. Shubman Gill also has a great record in ODIs with average of 58.20, but Yashasvi Jaiswal could add that extra dimension to India's batting line-up with his strokeplay. Shubman Gill generally takes some time to get set and so if India are looking for a more aggressive approach, Yashasvi could be a great fit.

The left-handed opener also has a good List A record with average of 53.96 in 32 games. He has five hundreds and seven fifties to his name in the format. He also was the youngest to score a double century in List A and so has the ability to get big hundreds and could be the game-changer in Champions Trophy.

Left-Hand/Right-Hand Combination

Rohit Sharma is a right-handed batter and having a left-handed batter in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order could help India. The right-hand left-hand combination makes it difficult for the bowlers to keep their lines and lengths intact and strike-rotation also does not help fielding captain in maintaining set field positions.

Shubman Gill, on the other hand, is a right-handed batter and with Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul also being right-handers, having a left-hander at the top could help India. In the past, India have reaped benefits by having left-hander Shikhar Dhawan at top and Yashasvi could provide the same luxury.

Recent Form And Confidence

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the man in form for India in the last couple of years. He has delivered in varied situations against different bowling attacks and would be high on confidence after his recent exploits in Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His average was over 40 in 2024 in both Tests and T20Is and he played plenty of match-winning knocks which has increased his stature in world cricket.

Shubman Gill, on the other hand had average 2024 and scored his 1189 runs across format at an average of 39.63. He struggled in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy recently and he also failed in three ODIs he played in 2024 against Sri Lanka. So, Gill is not in his best form currently and is low on confidence compared to Yashasvi Jaiswal which could play a factor in a high-pressure tournament like Champions Trophy.
