Nitish Reddy was a young talent ready to unleash his might after his stellar IPL 2024 season and MCG century. The nation was looking up to him as he was set to deliver in IPL 2025. However, things went south for the right-handed batter. With no significant performances this season, Reddy now faces a potential release from his franchise.

SRH who retained him with INR 6 crore in the Mega Auction hoped to back the star who might build on the franchise's future. However, his recent performances lack the promise. Here's a look at why SRH could release Nitish Reddy after IPL 2025

1. Failure to Deliver Consistent Performances in IPL 2025

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s form this season has been underwhelming compared to his breakthrough IPL 2024 campaign. In 2024, Reddy scored 303 runs in 13 matches at an impressive strike rate of 142.92. This performance earned him the Emerging Player Award and made him a crucial middle-order batter for SRH.

However, in IPL 2025, his form has dipped significantly. In 12 matches, he has managed only 182 runs at a modest average of 22.75 and a strike rate of 118.95, without any impactful innings. His highest score this season has been just 32, and he has failed to convert starts into big knocks.

This lack of consistency has hurt SRH’s middle order, which has struggled to build momentum in crucial matches.

2. Declining Bowling Contributions

Nitish’s value as an all-rounder also depends on his bowling, but his impact with the ball has diminished this season. In IPL 2024, he picked up 3 wickets in 13 matches and bowled 13 overs, showing promise as a part-time medium pacer who could chip in with crucial overs.

In IPL 2025, however, he bowled only 4 overs in his 12 matches and took 2 wickets at an economy rate of 10.25.

Economy Rate

202524210.25

This reduction in bowling responsibility limits his overall utility to the team, making it harder for SRH to justify retaining him as a genuine all-rounder option.

3. Lack of a Defined Role and Minimised Opportunities

Another critical factor is Nitish Reddy’s unclear role within the SRH squad. Initially, a No. 4 mainstay in a key middle-order position, Nitish has now been demoted to No. 6 and 7. Ishan Kishan's inclusion this season must have been the cause.

The top 3 batters provide a good start and Kishan picks the pace at No. 4. Even talents like Aniket Verma are going up ahead of Reddy during crucial stages of the match. Hence, Reddy's demotion in the batting order further reduced his opportunities to prove his worth.

This lack of a defined role and limited chances to perform have contributed to his inconsistent form and raised big question marks about his long-term place in the team.
