Pakistan cricket is back and they are back in some style in the ODI format. After a horrendous 2024, the team under the astute guidance of Mohammad Rizwan has won three successive ODI series and look unstoppable at the moment.

On Sunday, they thrashed South Africa in their own backyard and became the first team to inflict a 3-0 ODI whitewash to the Proteas at their home. The team looks balanced in all perspectives and have seemingly found a winning formula as all the three ODIs against the Proteas side were one-sided.

The Champions Trophy is coming up in just two months and the Pakistan side will be oozing with confidence after the recent results. They will play the majority of the tournament in their home, and here are 3 reasons why the Men in Green are firm favourites to win it.

3) Finally they have a capable leader in Rizwan

After Sarfaraz Ahmed was removed from the ODI captaincy post, Pakistan craved for a capable leader in ODIs, and it seems they have found one in Mohammad Rizwan. He has now won three ODI series on a trot, showcasing his class as a leader.

He started with a dominating win, Down Under against Australia, and followed it up with a series win Vs Zimbabwe and now the South African side. He doesn't crumble under pressure as a leader and also contributes with the bat. Rizwan, is a shrewd captain and in the three series so far has utilised his resources to perfection.

2) Quality batters from top to bottom

In Saim Ayub, Pakistan have found a gem and he proved his worth by slamming two centuries in the ODI series vs South Africa. Despite going through a slump, Abdullah Shafique is a quality player and has delivered the goods in the past.

In Rizwan and Babar Azam, they have proven match-winners who know their home conditions and will be a threat for every opposition. Also, they have found Tayyab Tahir and Kamran Ghulam, two promising players, and thus the team now has 6 quality batters in their ranks.

1) Pacers finding groove, new spinners coming in

Pakistan have always had fearsome pace bowling attacks, but now the emergence of Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem has given them two hidden spin bowling gems. Both Abrar and Muqeem are wonderful spinners and will be tough ones to crack in the Champions Trophy.

Plus, the likes of Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah form a tremendous pace-bowling trio and this certainly makes them a title contenders in the Champions Trophy.
