Things are not well within Pakistan Cricket as PCB, on Thursday, December 12, revealed that they will not renew the contract of red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie's assistant coach Tim Nielsen. The decision has reportedly not gone well with Gillespie, and there are reports that he too is looking at a potential exit.

Meanwhile, this article will look at three potential replacements for Jason Gillespie as Pakistan's Red-Ball head coach.

1. Aaqib Javed

After Gary Kirsten left the role of Pakistan's white-ball coach, the PCB roped in Aaqib Javed as interim white-ball coach. Thus, there are possibilities that the PCB might look for Javed to also replace Gillespie as the all-format coach of Pakistan.

However, Pakistan are yet to prove themselves under Javed's guidance as they suffered a 0-3 defeat against Australia in ODIs away from home in his first tenure. However, the Men in Green bounced back to clinch the series against Zimbabwe.

2. Shane Watson

Another strong contender to replace Gillespie as Pakistan head coach is Shane Watson. Notably, Watson was also in talks with the PCB to be their head coach when the position was vacant.

Watson did not get the role, as PCB went ahead with Kirsten and Gillespie. Nonetheless, Watson has a history of working in Pakistan and with the Pakistani players. It is worth noting that he coached Quetta Gladiators in the PSL and also found success with them. Thus, it is likely that the PCB would now turn their attention towards Watson.

It is worth noting that Watson joined Gladiators in 2024 and brought a immediate impact in the team. He led Gladiators to first playoffs in last four years.

3. Darren Sammy

Similar to Watson, Sammy too has experience coaching in the PSL. During the 2020 Pakistan Super League, Sammy was named as Peshawar Zalmi's head coach. Under Sammy's guidance, Zalmi reached the finals in 2021 edition.

Thus, Darren Sammy is another name, but he is currently the head coach of West Indies cricket.
