Chennai will host the second T20I as India takes on England in the ongoing five-match series on January 25 (Saturday) at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium. The match promises to be a high-octane battle with England looking to bounce back after their seven-wicket defeat in the series opener.

India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, had a dream start to the series in the first T20I, where the home team showcased their dominance. Bowling first, India restricted England to 132 runs, with some exceptional performance by Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy. In the chase, Abhishek Sharma's explosive half-century then propelled India to a comfortable win, chasing down the target in just 13 overs.

As the action shifts to Chennai, the focus now lies on three players who could have a significant impact on the outcome of the second T20I:

Varun Chakravarthy

  • India's ace spinner Varun Chakravarthy was a game-changer in the first T20I, as he took three wickets and dismantled England's batting line-up. Known for his ability to outfox players with his wide array of variations, Varun can be a player to watch out for in the second T20I.
  • However, it is important that Varun's style might not be favourable at the Chepauk track. But with his clever trajectory and deception, he could make a crucial impact in the second T20I. It would not be wrong to conclude that England's batters will need to find answers to his mastery if they hope to score big.

Hardik Pandya

  • India's all-rounder Hardik Pandya's experience and skill make him an invaluable player for India. Chennai's surface, known for assisting bowlers who use variations, could play right into Pandya’s hands.
  • His ability to deliver hard-length cutters on sticky pitches could trouble the English batters. However, his dynamic contribution with the bat adds depth to India's line-up. So considering all factors, Pandya will undoubtedly play an important role in determining India's fortunes in the match.

Tilak Varma

  • Tilak Varma has been making waves with his aggressive stroke play in the recent times specially in the shortest format of the game. The conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium could complement his batting style, making him a crucial player for the hosts.
  • With his ability to accelerate the scoring rate and anchor innings when needed, Varma has the potential to make a substantial impact and guide India to another commanding performance.
