The Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner and apart from hosts, Pakistan, India is another favourites to clinch the title. The team has a great mixture of youth and experience and will be eager to reclaim the Champions Trophy title. The focus in the Indian side is on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but one must not forget Yashasvi Jaiswal and his importance.

Jaiswal, the opening batter might not get a place since Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma occupy the top spot and will start the first game of the tournament. However, Jaiswal's brilliance cannot be ignored and here are 3 key reasons as to why he should be included in the playing XI.

3) India doesn't have a left-handed batter in top-6

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya will form India's top-6 in the Champions Trophy. However, the top 6 doesn't have any left-handed batter and thus, the Indian batting looks one dimensional.

A left-handed batter will create a different dynamics and will disrupt bowlers' rhythm. At the moment, all the batters in the top 6 are right handers and it will make the bowlers' job a lot easier. Against right arm leg spinners and left-arm off spin bowlers, Jaiswal has accumulated 369 runs, at a strike rate of 139.24 in white ball cricket (IPL and T20Is), abnd thus could be the player India needs at the top.

2) Jaiswal is in the form of his life

Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the form of his life and India should take a punt by playing him in the Champions Trophy matches. He was outstanding for India in the Tests and should be given a chance in the upcoming England ODIs.

If he does well there, Jaiswal should be included in the lineup as India cannot afford to have a player on the bench who is batting wonderfully and is in the form of his life. He can play the same role which Virender Sehwag used to play in his prime days, something which India lacks at the moment.

He slammed 1478 runs in 15 Tests in 2024 and was India's best batter for the Indian side.

1) Need to play fearless brand of cricket

Barring Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, all the other batters in the top-6 are mostly anchors in the side and the team needs an aggressive player who can take down the attack without thinking much. Rohit has that ability to play that game, but he has a tendency to get dismissed after scoring the quick 40s.

Jaiswal, on the other hand has the knack of playing big knocks and could be the one who takes the aggressive route and plays fearless cricket at the top for a longer period of time. Also, there are rumours that Jasprit Bumrah might not play due to an injury and thus, the weakened Indian bowling attack might need some cushion from the batters.

If the batters will regularly post totals in excess of 300-320, the job of the bowlers will become a lot easier.
