India and Australia have always shared a thrilling rivalry as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has always excited all the Test cricket. The 2023 edition of the marquee Test series was a thrilling one as Team India won the series by 2-1 on home soil.

Despite Team India emerging victorious, Ashwin’s spin lesson ahead of the third Test, which Australia won, sparked backlash. Two years later, former head coach Rahul Dravid lightened things up by taking a playful dig at the veteran spinner.

Dravid Pokes Fun At Ashwin’s ‘Spin Lecture

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 witnessed Team India’s red-ball domination as they outplayed the Australians on Indian soil. Known for fierce comebacks, the Australians turned the script with their brilliance as the Indian side faced a 9-wicket defeat in the third Test despite a 2-0 lead in the series. But Ashwin’s spin lesson ahead of Australia’s victory sparked a lot of criticism on the veteran Indian spinner.

Two years later, former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid poked fun at Ashwin regarding his spin lesson to the Aussies. On Kutti Stories With Ash, Dravid jokingly teased the off-spinner for “coaching” Australia in the middle of a live series.

“You even coached the Australian team. I got sent a clip. Unfortunately, it was in Tamil. So that's the one I've seen about you. You're speaking in Tamil and with a little bit of Tamil that I understand, you're coaching the Australian team in the middle of the Australian series, how to play spin. And I'm thinking, Ash, the series is not over,” Dravid said.

Ashwin Puts Aside The Dig With A Clever Remark

With unplayable deliveries, Ashwin’s brain is a gem, whether it's in cricket or outside. After Rahul Dravid took the hilarious jab, Ravichandran Ashwin shone with a witty remark. Clearing the air, he said, if he had known the situation before, he would’ve passed it on to India’s bowlers for an edge.

“If I knew how to do that, I would have told our boys how to play spin. I mean, why would I go and tell the Aussies?” Ashwin said.

After Rahul Dravid resigned from his post after the T20 World Cup win in 2024, Ravichandran Ashwin retired from international cricket in the middle of the recent edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With an outstanding career, the Indian spinner crafted an undisputed legacy in Indian cricket.
