Former India batter, Sunil Gavaskar, has voiced apprehensions surrounding the inclusion of star player KL Rahul in the forthcoming ODI World Cup, set to be hosted on home soil. Rahul, who is currently sidelined due to a troublesome thigh injury, will be conspicuously absent for the first two crucial encounters of the Asia Cup, following a minor niggle.

In light of Rahul's unavailability, the Indian team is poised to field the promising Ishan Kishan as the wicketkeeper-batsman in the Asia Cup clash against arch-rivals Pakistan. Gavaskar's reservations regarding Rahul's selection for this tournament have raised significant questions, especially considering his prolonged absence from competitive cricket.

KL Rahul has opted to remain in India, diligently working on his fitness regimen at the esteemed National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. A critical fitness assessment is scheduled for September 5th, whereupon a decision will be made regarding his participation in the Asia Cup.

Sunil Gavaskar remark on KL Rahul ahead of WC

"You know, mostly, I think the fact that he's not gone is possibly because of the fact that he wants treatment to be continued at the hands of the same physios who have been treating him at the NCA. But then, yes, I think it's a tricky situation because if he's not playing any game before the 5th of September, how do you assess his situation? Because practice match is one thing and match fitness is another thing. So, I think it's gonna be a tough call for the selection committee,"

Sunil Gavaskar's candid remarks underscore the uncertainty surrounding KL Rahul's readiness for the World Cup and add a layer of intrigue to the team's selection decisions.

"But maybe, you might get the answer in the first two matches itself. In which case, you might have to look beyond Rahul, but that's gonna be sad, but that's the reality."

The highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan encounter is slated to be held at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. In Rahul's stead, the Indian team will entrust Ishan Kishan with the vital role of wicketkeeper-batsman.
