In a recent kettle of controversy that has been set aboil in the cricketing world, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has unleashed a storm on social media. The catalyst was an anecdote shared by former Pakistan skipper, Inzamam Ul Haq during an interview that has since spiralled into viral status.

Harbhajan Singh tears into Inzamam Ul Haq over conversion story

Inzamam's story, which insinuated Harbhajan's admiration for Maulana Tariq Jameel to the point of purportedly considering a conversion to Islam, has sparked a vehement reprimand from the Indian spinner.

“We had a room where prayers were conducted. Maulana Tariq Jameel used to visit us in the evening and lead us into a namaz. After a few days, Irfan Pathan, Mohammad Kaif and Zaheer Khan also started coming. Four other Indian cricketers sat and watched us. Harbhajan, who was unaware that Tariq Jameel was a maulana, said that ‘I am impressed with this man and want to follow his words',” said Inzamam during an interview.

Taking to Twitter, Harbhajan's response was as fiery as his bowling. "Yeh kon sa nasha pee kar baat kar raha hai? (What kind of intoxication is this talk?)," he retorted. Asserting his identity, he added, "I am a proud Indian and proud Sikh..yeh Bakwaas log kuch bi bakte hai (These nonsense people talk anything)."

This incident is but the latest in a series of provocative statements emanating from across the border. The cricketing fraternity is still reeling from the shocking comments made by Abdul Razzaq about Aishwarya Rai, which unfurled like wildfire across the media landscape.

While discussing Pakistan's performance in the ICC World Cup 2023, Razzaq's jarring comparison of marrying the Indian actress with the virtue of progeny left many aghast, especially as co-panelists Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul chose silence over condemnation.
